A tool for better sustainability management
We’re proud to launch our new Sustainability Performance Framework to make it easier for responsible officers in local government to keep their environmental progress on track.
Achieving meaningful sustainability impact to help mitigate and adapt to climate change is about more than setting targets. It’s also about how well a Council objectively reviews and strengthens its approach along the way.
Our new Healthy Environs Sustainability Performance Framework (SPF) is our way of helping local government build more resilient communities without adding to already constrained budgets.
It can help local Councils to:
Assess your status quo.
Evaluate your Council’s current sustainability performance, and
Identify improvements to become more effective.
Through desktop review and stakeholder engagement elements, our SPF will help you to classify your Council’s performance across four dimensions: Leading, Advancing, Evolving and Investigating.
Use it to evaluate procurement, community engagement, fleet management, depot operations, public events, corporate waste management, and the management of buildings and facilities, streetscapes and natural assets.
It provides a valuable opportunity to reflect on your organisation’s sustainability strengths and uncover areas to improve.
The SPF can also benefit your organisation by helping to:
inform your Council’s Environmental Strategy or Action Plan
consult across all sections of council on environmental performance
report to your Senior Management, Elected Members and the community on your sustainability management status
demonstrate your environmental leadership to the wider community and local businesses
identify priority areas Council staff should focus on
establish a benchmark you can use to compare in the future.
