Roxby Community Hub – Connecting Community

BHP is focused on providing the resources the world needs to develop and decarbonise, including copper, nickel, potash, iron ore and metallurgical coal for the steel to support global infrastructure and the energy transition. This places many of BHP’s operations in remote places, including the Roxby Downs mining community and surrounds.

Healthy Environs was engaged to help BHP alleviate the isolation of residents in the Roxby Downs area due to their distance from normal extended support networks. The Roxby Downs Community Hub is a BHP-funded initiative, managed in partnership with Healthy Environs and our dedicated community development team based in the township.

The Hub provides a safe and welcoming place for locals to connect with others, where they can access relevant support services that improve their health and wellbeing.

The Hub’s core focus areas include:

  • Place-based approaches to connecting the community and activating Roxby’s retail centre

  • Building an online community to advance virtual community connections and program outreach

  • Supporting activities that align with the Hub’s themes of wellbeing and families such as resilience-focused programs and events

  • Facilitating local stakeholder involvement through collaboration within local and visiting organisations such as the Council, schools and community-based services.

Our data shows the positive benefits of the Community Hub on individuals and the broader community. The Hub supports BHP’s commitment to thriving and empowered communities.
