OzChild – Cultural Support

OzChild is piloting the Treatment Foster Care Oregon (TFCO) program from their Campbelltown and Blacktown operations in New South Wales (NSW). TFCO is an evidence-based treatment program offering an alternative to institutional, residential and group care placements for children and young people with severe emotional and behavioural disorders.

Working with OzChild’s National Director of Aboriginal Partnership, Healthy Environs and Indigenous and Social Participation Solutions, developed a Cultural Practice Manual for OzChild’s Treatment Foster Care Oregon (TFCO) program for their Campbelltown and Blacktown operations in New South Wales (NSW). The manual was developed to assist community, carer families, OzChild staff and partner Agencies, to deliver the TFCO Program in a culturally secure and sensitive manner for Aboriginal communities, families and children. Its aim is to provide a quick reference guide to effective cultural practice in a child protection context that can be easily referred to and understood. The guide also outlines strategies for connecting with community services to support the TFCO program in the pilot regions of Campbelltown and Blacktown (and the surrounding region).
